Rd 4 Race Report, Photos & Results.
Well after many weeks of planning etc true British Winter Weather struck. Over 12hrs solid rain and flooding softened the course up nicely for all the riders. Roads were closed, fields flooded and river overflowing but the course held up considerably well. The day started with the U12’s in the pouring rain taking on a shortened but still quite technical course and they were all presented with a massive goodie bag each. Then its was onto the older kids U14/16’s again still pouring down & blowing a gale. Due to this the organiser made the wise decision to reduce it by a lap. Again every rider was presented with an even bigger goodie bag. Onto the main race and weather had changed for the better, the rain had stopped and wind was still strong but gusty now. Riders were in for a challenge around the grounds of Hardwick Park and they got it. Ian decided not to bother with hurdles so that was one thing easier with the winner coming in just under 50mins. NECCL WINTER SERIES – Round 3 Gallagher Park, Bedlington, Northumberland Sun 4th Nov 2012
With a heavy overnight frost/ice and freezing fog this was a great start to the day but by the time the first race started the sun was blazing and very little wind made for fantastic race conditions. The U12’s did a shortened course based around the top field area and had a gentle climb in to test the younger ones. D Holmes led from the start with P Errington chasing behind and A Brown chasing Paul it was a great battle. The gaps started to grow slightly as the race progressed but all riders kept their positions for the finishing flag. Then it was onto the older kids U16/14’s which was based around the full 1.22mile adult circuit. The ground was starting to soften in places with the sun melting the overnight frost but was still good going. C Aspey led from the start and knew the course well with A Brown holding a gap to maintain second place. 3rd place S Myers was starting to catch A Brown on the last lap but Angus had a strong finish and kept 2nd overall. The last race of the day was the main race with Sen/Vet/Lady & Jun doing the full 50-60mins. The course was in very good condition considering the recent weather and there was only one soft short muddy uphill section to tackle. There was a great mix of up / down / singletrack and off chamber corners. There was some great battles between many riders and including plenty of singlespeed nutters. On that note Colin May Velo Club Edinburgh took the overall win on the day by a clear margin with A Burridge SWARM taking second and C Donaldson GS Metro third . 1st V40 G Mount, 1st V50 P Robson, 1st V60 J Carr and 1st Lady was H Ingoe. Many thanks to Geoff Turner & all the helpers / marshalls from Barnesbury CC for orgainising the event. Also a thank you to the Council for the use of the land. RD2 Race Report, Pics & Results.
Well Hetton has finally softened up after a dry & dumpy Autumn Series. There was heavy rain on Saturday afternoon and a shower just before the main race which made the course very slippy in places. There was many a rider ‘over the bars’ on the off chamber corners and was great fun. There was three races on the day starting the U12’s on a shortened course with a up followed by a nice down, B Dowson (Hetton Hawks) taking the win after a good battle with J Wilson (Stockton Wheelers) and A Brown (Hetton Hawks) taking a strong third (1st U10). Next up was the U14/16’s on the full course cutting a track through for the adults with J Mann (Derwentside CC) leding from the start to take the win, J Howard (Cleveland Wheelers) 2nd and N Hamilton (Hetton Hawks) 3rd. Then the heavens opened just before the main race started but stopped dry during the main race. Full results are in the RESULTS SECTION. Pics are here – https://picasaweb.google.com/neccl247 Many thanks to Colin and all his helpers on the dya for organising the event and a thanks must also go to John from Springboard Sunderland & Sunderland Council for use of the Country Park.
