Super Enduro 2010
Race Report – just what an afternoon’s racing @ Hetton Lyons Country Park, the course and weather were in the best possible condition although the sun did take its toll on the riders in the later part of the race. The first race was set off at 12.30pm with the U12’s group leading out on a shorted course (missing off the bottom half of the venue) but still had the big climb and descent with some singletrack to just to mix it up alittle. Then one minute later the U16/14’s group set off chasing them down on the same course. Last but not least was the U10’s group which did a smaller loop but had a climb & descent in to test them out. The U12’s were soon reeled in by the older ones and James was flying on his new carbon hardtail, followed by Matthew & Joe. James E won, followed by Matthew W in second then Joe D in third. Anus B was the only U12 not to be lapped and was 4th overall (1st U12). In the meantime the little was were bombing around the smaller loop with Arran leading until the last lap when Jack D overtook to take 1st place, Arran close 2nd then Hamish B had a strong finish to 3rd. The rider of the race was Thomas D who completed two loops on his push along, well done. The Presentation followed and all the kids got a Juice carton, crisps, sweets & a prize.
The main race followed at 1.15pm and the sun was out and they were ready to go. Were was a late entry on the line and funnily enough he lead the race for 10 out of the 11 laps ! The first lap was a quick one but the pace settled down for lap two and riders were lapping consistently with a few stoping for drinks and a quick snack on route. Paul M was covering the 2.4mile course in 11 min laps with Chris H & Ken H following through behind. Tom S started steady but was puling through the field with every lap gone and by the time the bell went he was on the back wheel of the leader, as they crossed the line there was nothing between them but who had enough left in them to take the win. Ten and a half minutes later Tom S (Malton Wheelers) was coming along the finishing straight with nobody behind him, what had happened ? well Paul M (RAF CC) had lost his saddle on the last lap so had to ride the remainder without sitting down ouch !! second overall. Ian R (MTS Cycle Sport) planned the race well and pulled through to get third overall as some of the other riders probably wishing they did not go out so fast. The best finish of the day was between Ken H (infinity Cycles) and Andy E (Altura), with Andy playing the steady away pace game was gaining very quickly on the tired legs of Ken H but he just finished in front. There was only a couple of mechanicals with Daneil L taking a lap out to do some fixing and Mike B had bottom bracket problems. Rider of he race was John D who in my eyes had a fantastic ride and completed a full 8 laps and looked to be really enjoying it with his son riding around with him for support on the last couple of laps. The refuelling followed with the two cakes getting demolished and squash / water got guzelled. Presentation time followed with the Winner receiving the Bespoke Trophy and the runner up received a Camelback water bottle & some energy bars/sachets (probably eat them in the car on the way home!) then the 14no Spot Prize bags were handed out. Congratulations to all the riders who competed in the event and many thanks to Gary Whorton, Richard Barnett and all the Muddy Brown’s Event crew. A big thank also to John from Springboard for the use of the land and facilities. Keep your eye out for the next one, probably after the end of CX season and before the MTB season starts.
