RD8 Race Report, Results & Photos.

NECCL Rd 8 Sun 6th Jan 2013 Thorney Ford Farm, Kirkley, Ponteland

Rd8 6.1.13 431This is a new venue to CX racing in NE this season and has proved to be very popular with a fantastic mix of all types of terrain. The course was set out on the most solid under tyre terrian that was aviable on the day which inc some steep climbs, plenty off chamber corners and switchbacks etc. The U12’s did a shortened course on the flatter lower field. Again B Dowson led from the start and covered 4 laps in 10.50mins. D Holmes came in 2nd (1st U10). There was a battle for 3rd and 4th place between A Brown who held 3rd place until the last lap where S Graham pulled through to get 3rd overall. A Brown was 4th (2nd U10). All the kids got some goodies in the barn presentation. Onto the U16/14/Novice Lady race, this was based on the full course. J Mann led from the start and had a clear win covering 4 laps 10.26min. There was a battle for 2nd & 3rd place with N Hamilton pulling through half way through to get 2nd overall (1st U14) from H Turnball 3rd overall (2d U14) and 1st Novice lady went to T Tucker. Cash prizes and Sponsred prizes were presented at the end inc some goodles as well. Then it was the big boys, the sun came out and was shinning off the hillside course and the riders were eager to get going from the start line. The course became more and more technical as ever lap passed and was probably the best event so far for spectators! C Ash was flying and led from the start to take 1st Sen covering 8 laps in 50.58min, A Nixon held onto 2nd place with a puncture and bike swap 1/2 way through the race and I Gibson 3rd Sen. J Anderson 1st V40 after his crank arm dropped off and swapping wheels, K Dowson 1st V50 after a few tumbles, 1st V60 J Carr on his SS with 1st Jun K Watts. Following the race the bbq was going strong not to mention the bike wash went down well. Race Report

Neccl Rd 9 Hetton Sun 24th Jan 10 309Neccl Rd 9 Hetton Sun 24th Jan 10 376
Well what a cracking Grand Final was had by all, with nearly 90 riders on the day competing for there last few points to sort out their Final League positions. It was a Grand day with a fantastic course with mixed terrain of climbs, downhills, fast tarmac sections and some singletrack through the woods. Riders and bikes were clean considering the recent thaw but the Lake was still frozen. The weather remained dry for all three races and even the sun popped out during the main race. As for the Results well there was a great battle between Adam Martin & Steven Ward for 1st & 2nd place but on the last lap Stevens race skills came into there own and beat Adam by just under a minute. Malcolm Lewis held 3 rd for the whole race. First Vet was visitor Pete Wilkin and 1st Lady was Pam Glover who had a great final ride to the season.
In the U16/14 race William Brown again took the title and there was some great battles for 4th & 5th place between James Edmond & Alex Harris.
In the U12 Thomas was again battling with Matthew Worton who has had a great end to the season and went down to sprint finish with Thomas beating him on the line. Again there was many battles for position during the race with another Sprint finish involving Angus Brown & Fin Robertson.
Many thanks must go to Dave McLean and all the many helpers on the day inc the Hetton Hawks Ladies for the refreshments. Also a thank you to Sunderland Council / Springboard for use of the venue.

Well words or photos just dont do the setting at Hetton Lyons today justice. What a winter wonderland setting for the Christams Round. Nearly 55 riders turned out on the day to test their snow riding skills to the max. The U12’s raced on a new circuit set out by Jamie Brady & Dave McLean. The U16/14’s raced on the full sen circuit which was an altered version of Rd 1 planned by Tony Glover.
The kids had the most fun on the day but not on their bikes but making snowmen, sledging on the bmx track and of course snaowballing the adults !
The only thing missing was some Swiss Cowbells at the finishline.
Many thanks must got to Tony Glover, Dave McLean, Jamie Brady, Rob (from Trihard) and the Hetton Hawks ladies for the Festive Refreshments.
There was 12no cash prizes on the day and goodies for all the U16/14/12’s as well. 3no Free Race Entry Vouchers were also awarded for Rd 8 at Whickham Thorns on Sun 20th Jan 2010.
